WVU Ranks No. 30 Nationally, No. 4 in Mid-Atlantic

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – The West Virginia University cross country team ranks No. 30 in the 2016 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Poll, announced Tuesday.
For the first time since week four of the 2015 season, the Mountaineers made an appearance in the national poll. West Virginia received nine votes in the preseason national rankings on August 29.
The Mountaineers also moved up to No. 4 in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional ranking. WVU was ranked No. 6 the last three weeks.
In addition to West Virginia, three other Big 12 Conference teams are nationally ranked, No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Baylor and No. 26 Iowa State.
Last weekend, WVU tied for third place, scoring 127 team points at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Three Mountaineers posted top-18 finishes with numerous season- and career-best times on the Goodman Cross Country Course.
Redshirt junior Jillian Forsey crossed the finish line first for the Mountaineers, placing fourth with a season-best time of 20:14. Forsey improved 51 seconds from her time of 21:05.50 at the Texas Tech Open on September 8. Redshirt junior Maggie Drazba followed in 15th place with a career-best time of 20:27 while classmate Amy Cashin took 18th in a career-best time 20:32.
In two weeks, the Mountaineers will race at the Penn State Nationals on October 14, in State College, Pennsylvania.
