Mountaineers Move Up to No. 2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following an impressive defensive showing in two conference shut-out victories, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team moves up one spot to No. 2 in today’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (10-1-1, 2-0) also moved three spots in this week’s NCAA RPI and sit at No. 2. It is the team’s highest-ever RPI position.
The TDS.com ranking is the team’s second-highest of the season, while the RPI position is the squad’s best this year.
Stanford (10-0-1, 3-0 Pac-12) sits at No. 1 in the poll and the RPI.
BYU (9-1-1, 0-0-1 WCC) ranks No. 3 behind WVU in the TDS.com Poll. Florida State (9-1-1, 3-0-1 ACC) and USC (9-2, 3-0 Pac-12) rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Duke (8-2-2, 3-0-1 ACC) sits at No. 6 and is followed by UCLA (9-2, 3-0 Pac-12) at No. 7. Virginia (8-2-2, 1-1-2 ACC), Arkansas (12-1, 5-0 SEC) and South Carolina (11-0-1, 5-0 SEC) round out the top 10.
Oklahoma is the only additional Big 12 Conference team ranked in today’s poll and sits at No. 24. The Mountaineers defeated the Sooners (10-3-1, 3-1) 2-0 on Sunday.
Georgetown (9-1-1, 1-0-1 Big East) sits at No. 3 in the RPI and is followed by South Carolina at No. 4 and BYU at No. 5.
Oklahoma stayed steady at No. 6 in the RPI and is followed by UCLA at No. 7. Virginia, Duke and Florida (8-3, 3-2 SEC) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers hit the road this weekend for their first Big 12 Conference trip of the season. WVU first plays at Kansas on Friday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. ET. The Jayhawks currently sit atop the conference rankings with a 3-0 record. The squad will then play at Iowa State on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. ET.
