MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Meghan Jean-Baptiste represented the West Virginia University track and field team on the first day of the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pennsylvania, on Friday.
“Tonight was a nice step for Meghan,” said coach Sean Cleary. “She ran a season-best time and that’s what we came here to accomplish. She has the month of February to really run at the level that she is capable of.”
Jean-Baptiste sprinted a season-best time in the 60 meter hurdles to place 26th overall with a prelim time of 8.94, improving .14 seconds from her previous time of 9.08. The Fairfax, Virginia, native, was just .10 seconds shy of advancing to the semifinal round.
A total of 38 men’s and women’s teams are competing at the PSU National Invite. Three women’s teams ranked in the top 25 of the USTFCCCA national rankings are also competing (Georgetown (No. 10), Stanford (No. 14) and Akron (No. 25)).
The Mountaineers will compete in the final day of competition on Saturday, Jan. 30, starting with the women’s 400-meter dash at 11 a.m.
