MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University cross country team is ranked No.12 in the second United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Poll, released on Tuesday.
“Coming in at No. 12 is fun for the girls, but we are very well aware that the only number we truly care about is the number in November,” said coach Sean Cleary.
In the Mid-Atlantic Regional ranking, West Virginia is ranked No. 3.
WVU was ranked No. 11 in last week’s national poll and No. 3 in the region.
New Mexico remains at No. 1, followed by Iowa State (No. 2), Colorado (No. 3), Georgetown (No. 4), Stanford (No. 5), Michigan State (No. 6), Oregon (No. 7), Providence (No. 8), Michigan (No. 9) and Arkansas (No. 10).
The Mountaineers remained idle since their last meet at the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 11, where they placed third.
“We will continue taking care of business and doing whatever is required to maximize our potential come championship season,” said Cleary.
The Mountaineers return to competition on Oct. 3, traveling to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete at the Greater Louisville Classic. The course serves as a preview for the NCAA Cross Country Championship set for Nov. 21, at Louisville’s Cardinal Park.
