Mountaineers Tour Charleston

When a student-athlete dons a West Virginia jersey, whether it’s for football, basketball, soccer or volleyball, they represent more than just a university. It is representative of a an population that spans more than just Morgantown in a state that boasts no professional teams, but places its pride in its’ universities and their athletic teams.
Coach Reed Sunahara and his volleyball team understand this and embrace it. That’s why Sunahara and his staff packed up the squad and headed 160 miles south to Charleston, where they spent the day practicing, working a youth clinic and touring The Capitol.
Hannah Shreve, a Charleston native who played at George Washington High, played tour guide. Shreve and her family arranged the youth clinic and the tour of the state building, and also took the Mountaineers to some of their favorite Charleston haunts.
“Getting involved in the community is a great feeling,” said Shreve. But being able to help grow the game of volleyball in my home town made it extra special.”
Departing for Charleston early Saturday morning, the Mountaineers arrived in town for practice and a clinic with youth volleyball players. Following their on-court activities, the team headed over to the West Virginia State Capitol. Inside, they toured the senate and house chambers and climbed the catwalk for a photo opportunity.
Shreve’s father, Dan, documented the entire day. Check out the photo gallery below.
