MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer senior Amanda Hill has been named the National Consortium for Academics & Sports (NCAS) Female PlayMaker of the Month for December 2015.
The PlayMaker of the Month Award honors the academic achievement and community service efforts of student-athletes at NCAS member institutions. Nominated by coaches, administrators and/or teammates, the student-athlete must carry a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and serve as an active participant in community/volunteer services and/or social change advocacy.
A native of Washington, Pennsylvania, Hill, a two-time team captain, was named to the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team on Dec. 3. She started all 88 career matches at defensive center midfield and ranks No. 3 on the all-time career starts list.
Set to graduate this May with degrees in exercise physiology and animal and nutritional sciences, Hill also is minoring in sport and exercise psychology. A 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree, she boasts a 3.97 grade point average (GPA). Hill is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 Soccer First Team honoree and also was named to the 2014 NSCAA Scholar All-Regional Honorable Mention Team. Additionally, she has been named to the President’s and Dean’s Lists, as well as the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Hill has accumulated more than 750 hours of community service during her WVU career. She has served as a dog walker for the Washington (Pa.) Area Humane Society, volunteered at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital and the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia, assisted with WVU women’s soccer camps and the annual 4v4 breast cancer tournament, and served as a volunteer handler for Hearts of Gold Service Dog Organization.
On the field, Hill helped the Mountaineers advance to the NCAA Elite Eight this year and record 19 victories, a program single-season record. WVU was ranked in the top 10 nationally each week but two this season and hit a program-high No. 2 ranking twice. The four-time reigning Big 12 Conference regular-season champions, Hill has won six conference titles with the Mountaineers.
A 2015 NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team honoree, Hill, also a two-time All-Big 12 Second Team honoree, tallied a career-high 13 points (5 G, 3 A) this season, including three game-winning goals. Additionally, she helped the Mountaineer defense post a program-record 15 shutouts.
