Gold Defeats Blue in Basketball Scrimmage

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Elijah Macon, Daxter Miles Jr. and Tarik Phillip each had 10 points to lead the Gold team to a 46-24 win over the Blue squad in a 30-minute officiated scrimmage at the Gold-Blue Debut Saturday evening at the WVU Coliseum in front of an estimated 5,000 fans.
Phillip, a junior guard from Brooklyn, New York, had a game-high eight rebounds along with three assists and three steals on his way to a 10-point effort. Phillip was 3-of-4 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Rounding out the Blue team’s statistics: Miles Jr. (10 points, 2-of-7 from 3-point range), Macon (10 points, 5-of-7 from the field, two blocks), Nathan Adrian (seven points), Jaysean Paige (seven points and two steals) and Logan Routt (two points).
Devin Williams paced the Blue squad with nine points and four rebounds. Rounding out the Blue statistics: Jonathan Holton (eight points), Jevon Carter (five points) and Teyvon Myers (two points and five rebounds).
“Our guys were excited to play and have some fun in the Coliseum in front of our great fans,” said coach Bob Huggins. “This event is always a great opportunity for our fans to come out, interact with our guys and watch quite a few of them in action for the first time.”
The Mountaineers will play their lone exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 6 against Glenville State. The game will tip at 7 p.m. at the Coliseum.
