Mountaineers Travel to Greater Louisville Classic

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - After a three week hiatus, the No. 13 West Virginia University cross country team travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete at the Greater Louisville Classic, at EP Tom Sawyer State Park, on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m.
“We struggled early as a team in training, but over the last 10 days we are starting to gain momentum,” said coach Sean Cleary. “This is a very good opportunity to really kick start our season. Louisville provides the chance for us to get a look at the NCAA course and allows us to better asses where we are.”
WVU will join 36 other schools in the women’s blue 5k race.
Saturday's course will also be the host for the NCAA Cross Country Championship set for Nov. 21.
The Mountaineers opened the season with their Alumni Open on Sept. 1, followed by the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 11, where they placed third.
“I’m feeling much better about our improvements over the past two weeks,” said Cleary. “My instinct is that we’ll go out and dust off the cobwebs this weekend, and return home ready to tackle the competition that lies ahead. Running on a course that we know well is always a plus. Bottom line, we are excited to get going!”
