MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Welcoming Big 12 foe Baylor to the WVU Coliseum on Saturday, the West Virginia University volleyball team will host a Gold Rush and youth clinic when they face the Bears in a 3:30 p.m. match.
All fans are encouraged to wear gold in support of the Mountaineers. Tickets are available at WVUGAME.com at the cost of $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children and $2 for groups of 10 or more. Free youth admission is offered with a completed Musket coloring sheet. In addition, children may turn in the coloring sheet to be entered in a giveaway during the match while Mr. Twister will be on site for face painting and balloon animals.
Following the match, the team will conduct a free youth clinic for kids in grades eight and under. Signup will be held at the marketing table by the Blue Gate upon entry. The Mountaineers will be available for autographs following the clinic.
Saturday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between WVU and Baylor. The first match dates back to 1986, when the Bears grabbed a 3-0 neutral site win. Baylor went on to win nonconference contests in 1997 (3-1) and 2011 (3-0) before WVU joined the Big 12 in 2012 and the two became league opponents. Since then, the series is split at 3-3 with the Mountaineers claiming the last three matches. WVU took a 3-1 win in Waco last October before sweeping the Bears 3-0 at home in November.

The Mountaineers are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Texas Tech on Wednesday evening at the WVU Coliseum. Mia Swanegan had a team-best 10 kills in the match, hitting .300 in the process with a pair of blocks. Hannah Shreve led the squad with five blocks, going for six kills and hitting .333.
Swanegan, who transferred to WVU from TCU this summer, has been a valuable addition to the squad and has made her mark in Big 12 play. She has averaged 2.69 kills per set and hit .223 in Big 12 action with 11 total blocks for an average of 0.69 per set in league play. Haley Roe has stepped in at setter and done well for the Mountaineers. Roe has averaged 10.23 assists per set with four service aces since October 3. She would rank fifth in the Big 12 in assists.
“We need to limit our mistakes and attacking errors,” said coach Reed Sunahara. “If we can become more consistent with our hitting and improve upon those areas, I think we can do some good things.”
Up next for the Mountaineers is a trip to Ames, Iowa. WVU will face Iowa State on Wednesday evening at Hilton Coliseum in a 6 p.m. match.
