MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Clara Grandt posted a first-place individual finish today as the No. 4 West Virginia University cross country team tied for first at the Midwest Open on the campus of Wisconsin-Parkside, in Kenosha, Wis.
The Mountaineers tied with BIG EAST foe Louisville for the top spot, as Marquette, Hillsdale and North Dakota State followed.
Grandt, a West Union, W.Va., native led the team as she crossed the line in 17:00.1, 19 seconds in front of Louisville's Tarah McKay (17:19.4).
Senior Karly Hamric and redshirt freshman Sarah-Anne Brault also raced well, finishing in sixth (18:04.7) and seventh (18:05.3), respectively, while Morgantown, W.Va., native Ahna Lewis followed in ninth (18:27.9).
Redshirt sophomore Stephanie Caruso had a strong race, finishing 20th with a time of 18:45.4.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, with the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
