MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 7 West Virginia University cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 14, on the campus of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md. Race time is set for 1:15 p.m.
The Mountaineers enter this weekend ranked No. 3 in the region behind Villanova and Princeton, after a second-place showing at the BIG EAST Championship on Oct. 31. The Mountaineers finished, behind No. 2 Villanova as senior Clara Grandt led with an overall fifth-place showing (21:20), while seniors Marie-Louise Asselin and Keri Bland followed in seventh (21:26) and 13th (21:46), respectively.
Also racing well and scoring for WVU were juniors Kate Harrison and Kaylyn Christopher. Harrison finished 21st (22:00) and Christopher crossed the line in 28th (22:19).
Last season, WVU took first at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals for the second time in school history, while six athletes were named to the all-region team.
The top two teams at each regional meet automatically qualify for the national championship, while 13 at-large teams will be selected by the track and field subcommittee next week.
