MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team jumped to No. 3 in the national poll, released today by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
"It is great to know that our peers have this much faith in our program," coach Sean Cleary says. "Hopefully, this faith will still be there in November."
The Mountaineers' No. 3 ranking is the highest-ever in school history. Washington still owns the top spot, while BIG EAST rival Villanova is at No. 2, and Oregon and Princeton round out the top 5.
Villanova made the biggest move this week, as it jumped three spots from last week, after the squad took first at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore., last weekend.
Other teams in the top 10 include Stanford, Iowa State, Minnesota, Florida and Virginia.
The Mountaineers are idle this weekend, but are set to return to action on Friday, Oct. 16, with the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa.
