MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team is ranked at No. 4 in the national poll released today by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Mountaineers dropped one spot from last week, as they received 329 votes in this week's poll. Washington remains at No. 1 (360), while Villanova stays at No. 2 (346). Colorado was this week's biggest mover, as it jumped 16 spots from No. 19 to No. 3 (331).
In the regional poll announced yesterday, the Mountaineers remain at No. 2, behind Villanova.
Last weekend, the Mountaineers took first place at the Penn State National Invitational. The meet was originally scheduled to be held at University Park, Pa., but was moved Lock Haven, Pa., due to inclement weather. There, WVU led the pack as all seven runners finished in the top 20.
Senior All-American Keri Bland led the team with a second-place finish, as she crossed the line at 20:22. She was followed by Senior Marie-Louise Asselin, who finished fourth (20:36), while senior Clara Grandt finished fifth (20:38).
Also racing well and scoring for the Mountaineers were Sarah-Anne Brault who finished ninth (20:59), Kaylyn Christopher who finished 12th (21.02), and Kate Harrison and Jessica O'Connell, who finished in 14th (21:07) and 19th (21:20).
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, as they travel to Kenosha, Wis., for the BIG EAST Championships.
