Abbie Pierson was named the director of operations for the West Virginia University gymnastics team in July 2024.
Pierson’s roles include managing day-to-day operational tasks, coordinating season travel and helping organize the team’s summer camps and on-campus recruiting efforts. She also is charged with managing the operational aspects of hosted competitions and championships, including coordinating with judges, volunteers and other meet staff.
Pierson joins West Virginia’s staff after a decorated, five-year career on the Mountaineer gymnastics team. While on the team, Pierson soared to the top of several categories in the WVU record books, eventually tying the program record with 60 career meets competed. She also ranks No. 5 all-time with 1,880.8 career points and No. 6 with 28 career 9.9+ scores.
A two-time team MVP award winner, Pierson helped lead the Mountaineers to four NCAA Regional Championships berths and led her team in both points and podium finishes in her final season in 2024.
A native of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Pierson earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from WVU in 2023, before completing her master’s of exercise physiology at WVU in 2024.
