Drew Sams joined the WVU Athletics Department staff in September 2022 as assistant director of equipment operations.
A native of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Sams assists in the equipment disbursement for all Mountaineer sports teams, with his primary sport responsibility being women’s basketball. He works in the basketball practice facility.
As an undergraduate, Sams was the head women’s basketball manager for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In that role, he supervised a student manager staff and coordinated their daily work responsibilities while assisting the coaching staff. He also gained valuable experience with ShotTracker.
Sams spent one year working for Mountaineer football as a video intern as well.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from in sport management, with minors and marketing and general business, and a master’s degree in sport management from WVU in May 2023.
He resides in Morgantown.
