FARMINGTON, Pa. – The West Virginia University golf team will return to action on Monday and Tuesday by hosting the third Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational in Farmington, Pennsylvania.
Â
The 54-hole event will take place at the par-72, 7,526-yard Mystic Rock Golf Course at Nemacolin Resort. Golfers will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Â
Sixteen teams will be in the field. Joining host West Virginia will be Campbell, Connecticut, Delaware, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, George Mason, George Washington, Murray State, Rider, Robert Morris, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, St. John's, Towson and William & Mary. Auburn will have a group of individuals participate in the event.
Â
West Virginia's lineup will consist of juniors Aidan Dortch, Nick Turowski and Ryan Leach, sophomore Jack Michael and freshman Hogan Blais. Senior Harrison Thompson, sophomores Brody Burgess and Gabe Schmitz and freshmen Major Ewing and Michael Shivers will compete as individuals for the Mountaineers.
Â
West Virginia has won the previous two events. Last year, West Virginia won with a 36-under-par score, while Kaleb Wilson repeated as the individual champion at -11. Two years ago, West Virginia won the inaugural event with a +2 score, while Wilson won his first collegiate event, shooting 7-under-par.
Â
"We are excited to host an event on a former PGA TOUR golf course, Mystic Rock at Nemacolin," coach Sean Covich said. "Our players are excited to compete on a golf course that they are very familiar with. We need to play solid golf this week, limit the mistakes and capitalize on opportunities when they present themselves. This season is still young, and we are still looking for leaders to emerge. If we get leadership and consistent play, we can have some success this season. But if we keep making mental mistakes, we will not achieve what we are capable of."
