MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two student-athletes from the West Virginia University swimming and diving team have earned Big 12 Weekly Awards for their performances against Pitt on Jan. 10.
Freshmen Liam Aleman and Madalyn Witt were named Big 12 Men's Newcomer of the Week and Women's Newcomer of the Week, respectively.

Witt recorded the ninth-fastest time in program history in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.35) while placing second against Pitt.
Aleman was one of four Mountaineers to win an individual event, touching the wall at 1:58.15 to win the 200-yard breaststroke.
This is the first time either swimmer has earned the recognition from the Big 12. They are the first Mountaineers to earn a weekly Big 12 award since senior Gabriela Martin was named Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Week in October.
