
West Virginia Powers Past Liberty to Remain Undefeated

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (5-0) continued its dominant start to the season with a 3-1 win over the Liberty Lady Flames on night two of the West Virginia Invitational at the WVU Coliseum. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, and 25-21.
The Mountaineers showcased a balanced offensive attack, with four players recording double-digit kills. Junior outside hitter Nina Horning led the charge with 18 kills on a .359 hitting percentage, finishing with a game-high 20.5 points. Redshirt senior Cassidy Tanton delivered a standout double-double performance, tallying 16 kills and 11 digs for 17 points.
Redshirt junior setter Alexis Finnvold orchestrated the offense with precision, posting a game-high 40 assists, along with nine digs, four kills, and three service aces.
Senior libero LonDynn Betts anchored the defense with a team-high 15 digs, while also contributing eight assists and a service ace.
As a team, WVU hit .345 with 65 kills, 55 digs, and seven blocks, continuing to build momentum heading into the final match of the tournament.
The Mountaineers will wrap up the West Virginia Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a match up against Coppin State at 1 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live stats available at wvusports.com.
