MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will continue its fall season at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota, on Sunday and Monday at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.
Golfers will hit the links in tee times starting Sunday at 7:15 a.m. CT and will play 36 holes with the final 18 set for Monday. Windsong Farm is a par-71 course playing at 7,380 yards.
It marks the Mountaineers' sixth appearance at the event. Joining West Virginia and host Minnesota this year will be Furman, Wisconsin, Marquette, St. Thomas (Minn.), Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Nebraska, Little Rock, Rutgers, Louisville, Texas A&M, Miami University and South Carolina.
West Virginia's lineup will consist of senior Kaleb Wilson, junior Harrison Thompson, sophomores Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski and freshman Jack Michael.
In addition, senior Westy McCabe, sophomore Aidan Dortch and freshmen Brody Burgess and Gabe Schmitz will compete as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic at the par-72, 6,953-yard Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain, Minnesota. They will play 18 holes on Saturday afternoon and 36 holes on Sunday.
"The Gopher Invitational is one of my favorite events of the entire season," coach Sean Covich said. "The golf course is phenomenal, always in great shape and a good challenge. Traditionally, the weather is cool but not too cold and you have to deal with some wind. The field is stacked with several nationally ranked teams. I'm excited to see how our guys respond to last week, so they still come out hungry ready to compete or are they still daydreaming about something in the past?"
Earlier in the week, the Mountaineers captured the Island Resort Collegiate in Michigan with a school-record 55-under-par score, while Leach brought home first-place honors with a school-record 17-under par finish.
Live scoring will be available at Scoreboard.
