MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team head to the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic, hosted by St. John's in Queens, New York September 12-14th. The Mountaineers will face St. John's, Marist and Delaware St. over three days of competition.
West Virginia opens the tournament on Friday, at 7 p.m. against St. John's, followed by a Saturday night matchup with Marist at 7 p.m. The tournament wraps up Sunday afternoon, with a 4 p.m. contest against Delaware St. All games will be held in Carnesecca Arena.
Friday night's match versus St. John's will be the only game streamed throughout the weekend on ESPN+, while live stats are available for all games at WVUsports.com.
The game against St. John's will be a rematch of former Big East foes. The Red Storm hold the all-time series record at 13-4. This is their first meeting since 2011, when the Mountaineers won 3-0 at Carnesecca Arena.
This will be only the second time that the Mountaineers have played Marist. The first time was back in 2004, with the Mountaineers claiming a 3-1 win over the Red Foxes.
Finally, WVU will take on Delaware St. for just the third time in program history. The Mountaineers hold a perfect 2-0 record in the series, with the last meeting taking place in 2022.
The Mountaineers look to continue their early season success, having posted a 6-0 record, winning both Quest for the Crown and West Virgina Invitational. This start marks the third best start in program history, with the record being 10-0 in both the 2021 and 2013 season.
Three players earned All-Tournament honors during the West Virginia Invitational: redshirt senior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton, junior outside hitter Nina Horning and junior middle blocker Maddy McGath.
Tanton, who also earned MVP honors, led the way with 47 kills (.451 hitting), 22 digs, and a .943 reception rate, averaging 4.13 points per set. Horning contributed 40 kills (.305 hitting), 20 digs, and 5 total blocks, averaging 3.88 points per set, while McGath added 27 kills (.478 hitting), 7 digs, and 9 block assists, averaging 2.96 points per set.
