
Strong Finish: Mountaineers End First Day of Quest for the Crown with a Win

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) wrapped up the first day of the Quest for the Crown Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Old Dominion on Friday evening.
Set scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, and 25-18 in favor of the Mountaineers.
Redshirt junior opposite Trinity Sheridan powered the offense with a match-high 16 kills on an efficient .367 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Nina Horning added 11 kills, while redshirt junior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs—the 14th of her career. Redshirt junior setter Alexis Finnvold paced the offense with a match-high 32 assists.
Defensively, senior libero LonDynn Betts anchored the back row with 17 digs, and junior middle blocker Maddy McGath led all players with five blocks.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Aug. 30, when they face Fairfield at 1 p.m. ET to close out the Quest for the Crown Tournament inside the ODU Volleyball Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
