MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team plays host to Duquesne and Robert Morris in a scrimmage on Saturday, May 3, in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The competition will begin at 9 a.m. The four racing pieces will be over a 1,000-meter stretch of the Monongahela River in the area of Edith Barill Riverfront Park. The racing will occur in three flights and alternate directions, so that the starts and finishes of two races will be visible. The Mountaineers will put out a 1V8+, 2V8+, 1V4+, 2V4+ and 3V8+.
"We are excited to host Duquesne and Robert Morris at home," associate head coach
Tina Griffith said. "We have a great relationship with both schools, which makes it easy to get some competitive strokes in without having to travel significant distances. This is especially important this time of year as the athletes are heading into exam week."
The Mountaineers have not hosted any spring racing since March 25, 2023, and are looking forward to outside competition on friendly water.
"Duquesne recorded some fast times last week in Michigan, but we were not able to race them directly except for in the 1V4+, so we will be looking forward to getting a chance at direct competition with them this weekend," Griffith said. "Only a small number of our squad was able to see Robert Morris early in the season, so it will be good to square off against them with the full team."
Spectators can best view racing from Edith Barill Riverfront Park, Leeway Street, Star City.
