MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Graduate student
Sarah Tait of the West Virginia University track and field team captured the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase title at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Friday night in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tait clinched the conference championship with a meet record time of 9:44.72. With the time, she knocks down a record that has been held since 2010, by Colorado's Emma Coburn.
Additionally, in the steeplechase, redshirt junior
Zara Zervos finished 15
th overall with a time of 11:48.52.
In the first round of the 800 meters, sophomore
Kishay Rowe led the Mountaineers in 12
th place after posting a time of 2:07.76. She was trailed by sophomore
Eva Rinker in 36th place.
Freshman
Sabria Jones appeared in her first outdoor conference championship, finishing 26
th overall in the long jump.
Next, West Virginia concludes competition at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Saturday, beginning at 4 p.m. ET, with the women's high jump. Additionally, the Mountaineers will face off in the 5,000 meters and 4x400 meter relay inside of Rock Chalk Park.
