
Naukot Wins 10,000 Meters at Big 12 Outdoor Championships

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Freshman Joy Naukot of the West Virginia University track and field team claimed the women's 10,000-meter conference title at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Thursday night in Lawrence, Kansas.
With a time of 33:30.84, Naukot becomes the second Mountaineer in program history to win the 10,000 meters at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. The freshman joins alumnae Kaitlyn Gillespie, who took the conference title in 2015 with a time of 33:45.56.
In the heptathlon, redshirt sophomore Olivia Cress finished the day with 3,107 total points after competing in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters. Cress took the second heat of the 200 meters with a time of 24.88, moving her to ninth place overall.
Sophomore Tecla Lokrale finished 17th in the women's 1,500 meters, after marking a time of 4:35.79. Additionally, classmate Lily Haught posted a personal best time of 1:00.67 in the 400-meter hurdles, claiming 25th place.
Next, the Mountaineers continue at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Friday, beginning at 12:45 p.m. ET, with the women's heptathlon long jump. West Virginia will also compete in the heptathlon javelin and high jump, followed by the long jump, 800-meter first round and the 3,000-meter steeplechase inside of Rock Chalk Park.
