MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women's basketball head coach
Mark Kellogg has announced the addition of Carter McCray (Oberlin, Ohio / Wisconsin / Northern Kentucky) to a grant-in-aid for the 2025-26 academic year.
"Carter is a great fit for our team," Kellogg said. "She will help elevate our program on both ends of the court"
"Carter is an elite finisher at the rim and a big-time rebounder. Defensively, she will shine in our pressure system and guard multiple positions. We are excited for Carter to get to West Virginia and introduce herself to our fans."
The 6-foot-1 forward from Oberlin, Ohio has played two seasons of collegiate basketball with two seasons of eligibility left after beginning her career at Northern Kentucky and most recently Wisconsin.
McCray has netted 804 points, 560 rebounds and 70 steals and 30 blocks in two seasons. She has played in 61 career contests, making 60 starts, while recording 1,742 minutes played. She nearly averages a double-double for her career with 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
Last season, Carter played in 30 games while making 29 starts. She averaged 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds while playing 25.4 minutes per game. She scored in double-figures 16 times and recorded five double-doubles in points and rebounds. She had a season-high 22 points against Northwestern and added a high of 14 rebounds against UAlbany.
During her freshman season with Northern Kentucky, she started in all 31 games, averaging 31.5 minutes per game. She averaged a double-double, with 15.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest. She became the program's first Horizon League Freshman of the Year and added Second Team All-Horizon League honors. She was also named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team and was a 6x Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Carter averaged a double-double during her junior season of high school at Elyria Catholic with 12.2 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game, all while leading her squad to a 20-5 record. She was named Great Lakes Conference First Team, Lorain County D3 First Team, Northeast Lakes All-District D3 First Team and was an All-Ohio D3 Special Mention during her junior season. She was also named to the Lorain County D4 First Team Northeast Lakes All-District D4 Second Team and was an All-Ohio D3 Special Mention as a freshman.
McCray intends to major in Biology, Pre-Med while at West Virginia University. She is the daughter of Antwon and Rachael McCray.
