JJ Quinerly of the West Virginia University women's basketball team was the 27th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft by the Dallas Wings.
This year's draft was broadcast nationally on ESPN from the shed at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, New York.
Quinerly becomes the 11th player in program history to be drafted by a WNBA team and is the first since 2021 when Kysre Gondrezick was selected No. 4 overall and a first-round pick by the Indiana Fever.
The native of Norfolk, Virginia finished her West Virginia career with 2,016 points. She is the first player in program history to finish with 2,000+ points and 300+ rebounds, steals and assists.
During her senior campaign, Quinerly became the 14
th individual and the 34th All-American honor in program history after garnering honorable mention status by the Associated Press and Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
She also became the first finalist in program history for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and is the fourth WVU player to be unanimously selected to the All-Big 12 First Team and just the third to earn the distinction twice. She was also named the conference's defensive player of the year for the second straight season.
Among WVU's all-time career leaders, Quinerly ranks No. 3 all-time in points scored (2,016) and No. 5 all-time in scoring average (16.00). Her 20.38 points per game average in 2024-25 marks just the fifth time in program history a Mountaineer has finished a season with a 20 points per game scoring average and is the first since 1992. Her 328 career steals ranks third and her 2.6 steals per game ranks fourth all-time.
