McCabe Claims Big 12 Indoor Championship Title in 3,000 Meters

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University track and field team took first place in the women's 3,000-meter finals on Saturday night at the Big 12 Indoor Championships inside of the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
McCabe claimed the title after posting a time of 9:07.56, after aiding in WVU's distance medley relay conference championship Friday night. This marks McCabe's eighth Big 12 track and field title.
Additionally in the 3,000 meters, freshman Joy Naukot earned her second silver medal of the weekend, after finishing with a time of 9:08.65. While freshman Naomi Kemboi added a personal best time of 9:09.03, taking fourth place.
Overall, the Mountaineers finished fourth as a team. The fourth place finished marked the highest team finish for the Mountaineers since joining the Big 12 conference in 2012.
In the mile, graduate student Sarah Tait collected six points for the Mountaineers after finishing third with a time of 4:38.22.
Graduate student Madison Trippett added yet another podium finish for the squad, as she earned fourth place in the 1,000 meters after running for 2:50.31.
In the high jump, redshirt sophomore Annishka McDonald finished at 1.73 meters while clinching a ninth-place finish.
Next, WVU will await seeding for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The final list of meet participants will be available on Tuesday, March 4. On March 12, the final championships start lists will be posted on the NCAA website.
