MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
-- The No. 2-ranked West Virginia University rifle team hosts the qualifying match for the 2024-25 NCAA Rifle Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell building in Morgantown.
The match will also serve as senior day for two Mountaineers in
Gavin Barnick and
Natalie Perrin. Senior day festivities will begin following the conclusion of the match at approximately 12:45 p.m. ET.
Saturday's qualifier is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET. A live scorecard for this weekend's matches can be found at
ncaarifle.org. Additionally, live targets will be available online, courtesy of
MegaLink.
West Virginia shoots the qualifying match alongside VMI on Saturday. Although the teams will compete simultaneously, the scores will not count as a win or loss for the season. The scores will factor into the teams' overall standings and qualifying averages for the NCAA Championships.
The top eight teams and individual competitors selected to compete at the NCAA Championships will be announced at NCAA.com on Monday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. ET.
West Virginia has qualified for the NCAA Championships in the last 16 postseasons, all of which have come under head coach
Jon Hammond's leadership.
Last time out, the Mountaineers concluded the regular season with a 4749-4716 win over No. 3 Kentucky to claim the program's 26
th straight regular-season victory. With the win, WVU claimed the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) regular-season title for the 16
th time in program history.
West Virginia finished the regular season at 13-0, including 5-0 in the GARC. It is the eighth time the Mountaineers have produced a perfect regular season under Hammond.
During his 19 seasons at West Virginia, Hammond has won at least 10 regular season matches 14 times. Moreover, Hammond has tallied at least 12 victories in the regular season nine times.
