
WVU Posts Record-High Graduation Success Rate Score

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University's combined varsity athletic teams have a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) score of 96 percent, according to data released today by the NCAA. The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2015 through 2018.
WVU's 96 percent score is its highest in the history of the GSR. The score is up two points from each of the last two years, six percent from three years ago and 10 percent from four years ago.
WVU's score of 96 percent is the second highest in the Big 12 Conference, one percent behind Cincinnati. The Big 12 Conference graduation rates for conference affiliation based on 2024-25 are as follows: Cincinnati (97), West Virginia (96), Utah (95), Iowa State (95), Baylor (94), UCF (94), Arizona State (93), Arizona (93), Kansas State (93), Oklahoma State (92), Colorado (90), Kansas (90), TCU (87), Texas Tech (85), Houston (82) and BYU (80).
The Graduation Success Rate was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the academic success of Division I student-athletes.
Ten WVU teams posted 100 percent scores for the period.
The four-year GSR scores (percentage) for WVU's varsity sports teams (2015 to 2018): baseball 87; men's basketball 100; football 95; golf 100; men's soccer 92; men's swimming & diving 96; wrestling 83; women's basketball 100; women's cross country/track 97; rowing 100; gymnastics 100; women's soccer 100; women's swimming & diving 100; tennis 100; volleyball 100; and rifle 100.
