
Mountaineers Repeat as Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia claimed the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship for the second straight year, posting 56 team points to secure another title and punch its ticket to the NCAA Championship.
Joy Naukot led the way with a first place finish and a personal best of 19:11.8, breaking the course record and tying the Mid-Atlantic Region meet record. Mercy Kinyanjui followed with a personal best of her own, finishing second in 19:22.5, also surpassing the previous course record.
Lexi Lamb added another personal best with a sixth place finish in 19:43.3, while Emily Bryce placed 19th in 20:03.8. Naukot, Kinyanjui, Lamb and Bryce each earned All-Region honors. Anastasia Chepkorir ran her best time at WVU, finishing 28th in 20:26.6, rounding out the scoring group.
Tatiana Moura set a personal best with 21:08.1 for 47th place and Mary Delaney finished 59th in 21:23, also achieving a personal best.
With back-to-back regional titles, a tied regional record, a broken course record and multiple personal bests, the Mountaineers now shift their focus to the NCAA Championship in Columbia, Missouri on Nov. 22.
