
West Virginia Set to Meet Duke at Greenbrier Tipoff

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team is set for its toughest test to date when it takes on No. 15 Duke as part of the Greenbrier Tipoff on Friday.
Tipoff against the Blue Devils is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET from Colonial Hall at the historic Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Friday's contest will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 FM, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Varsity Network App.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast on ESPNU, with Brenda VanLengen and Anne O'Neil on the call. Live stats and game notes are available on WVUsports.com.

The contest is the first of the season for the Mountaineers on a national broadcast and the first against an Associated Press ranked team. During the Mark Kellogg era, West Virginia is 5-11 against ranked teams, including 1-3 when playing at a neutral site. Kellogg's highest-rated win came last season when the Mountaineers knocked off No. 12 Kansas State by a final score of 70-57 inside Hope Coliseum.
West Virginia (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) and Duke (1-1, 0-0 ACC) meet for just the 3rd time in program history. The meeting is the first since a home-and-home series that was played in 1995 and 1996. Duke claimed both of the meetings.
Of note, the Mountaineers are 24-1 against nonconference opponents over the last three seasons. Additionally, WVU is 31-6 against power conference programs over the same span.
The Mountaineers are averaging 86.5 points to open the season and allow just 51.7 points per game. Both marks are the third and fourth best among Big 12 Conference programs. Additionally, WVU is forcing its opponents into 27.3 turnovers, the 23rd best nationally, and corralling 13.7 steals a game, the 50th best mark in the nation. West Virginia has forced 30+ turnovers and 15+ steals in two games this season. WVU ranks 42nd in the nation with a +10.3-turnover margin.
Senior guard Sydney Shaw leads the Mountaineers in scoring this season after averaging 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds across the opening three games.
Graduate guard Kierra "Meme" Wheeler is nine points away from reaching 1,500 points for her career. She has played in 101 career contests. Jordan Harrison recorded her 500th career assist the last time out and paces WVU with 4.3 assists per game.
