
WVU Golf Adds Three for 2026-27

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University golf coach Sean Covich has announced the signings of Hogan Blais, Major Ewing and Michael Shivers to national letters-of-intent for the 2026-27 academic year.
"We are excited to add three outstanding young men to our program," Covich said. "All three possess the intangibles we look for: high character, hardworking and competitive. They have achieved success in junior and high school golf, but more importantly they will represent WVU with class and work hard continuing to develop their games."
Blais is a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, who attends Ecole Secondaire Publique Louis-Riel.
Blais Bio
- Shot 66 in the PGA TOUR Cognizant Classic Pre-Qualifier to advance to the Monday Qualifier for a final round 72
- Runner-up in the Ontario NexGen Championship with scores of 70-71-70 (-5)
- Runner-up in the Quebec Match Play, won five matches, before losing by one stroke in the finals via playoff
- Placed third at the Quebec Junior Boys Championship with scores of 71-69-71-68 (-9)
- Placed seventh at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship with scores of 75-69-69-67 (E)
- Placed ninth at the AJGA Lanto Championship with scores of 70-69-69 (-8)
- Selected to represent Team Quebec in the Williamson Cup twice and finished top 6 each time individually
- Played AAA hockey until the age of 16 as well as Tier 1 baseball in the Ontario Baseball Association travel league where he led the league with a .425 batting average and an ERA under 2.50 throughout 15 starts
- Son of Marc Blais and Sonia Girouard
- Fourth Canadian golfer to sign since the reinstatement of golf, following in the footsteps of All-Decade Team members Max Sear (Ontario) and Etienne Papineau (Quebec) and Oli Menard (Quebec)
Covich on Blais: "Hogan has a lot of talent and works hard. He's played some great golf and shot some impressive scores during his career thus far. We have had a lot of success with Canadian players, just look at Max, Pap and Oli, so I am excited that he will add to that tradition for us."
Ewing is a native of Blacksburg, Virginia, who attends Rivers Academy in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Covich on Ewing: "We are thrilled to add Major Ewing to our Mountaineer golf family, and I know that he is fired up to represent the Old Gold and Blue. Major has been on our radar for years and it's nice to finally make it official today. He will bring talent and competitiveness to our team, and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish during his career at WVU."
Shivers is a native of Brentwood, Tennessee, who attends Gateway Academy.

- Qualified for the 2023 Tennessee Jr. Amateur Championship, medalist (66) at Ted Rhodes Golf Club
- Qualified for the 2024 Tennessee State Amateur
- Qualified for the 2025 Tennessee State Amateur, medalist (70) at Five Oaks
- Top 10 in the 2025 Tennessee State Amateur Championship played at Holston Hills Country Club with rounds of 74-69-69-68
