MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team opens its 2025-26 season this weekend on the road against No. 8 Murray State, No. 10 Memphis and No. 19 UT Martin.
WVU kicks off its NCAA National Championship title defense against Memphis inside R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range on Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee, with a match slated for an 8 a.m. ET. On Sunday, the Mountaineers travel to Murray, Ky., for a match at 9 a.m. against Murray State and UT Martin inside the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
West Virginia is 18-2 all-time against Memphis in a series that began in 2005. The two programs met last season, where WVU turned in a 4733-4699 win. The meeting with Murray State is the first of two this season. WVU is 27-3 all-time against the Racers. WVU won the last meeting in 2024 with a final score of 4741-4692. The meeting with UT Martin is the first in program history.
The Mountaineers finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 13-0 record, including a 5-0 mark inside the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC). WVU claimed its 17th GARC Tournament Championship while also producing its 16
th GARC Regular Season title.
West Virginia earned their 17th consecutive bid to the NCAA Rifle Championships last season. WVU concluded its season at the event, shooting a 4738 at the championship to claim the program's 20
th NCAA National Championship.
