MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team begins the 2025 season with a doubleheader against Duquesne and Morgan State at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown on Saturday, Jan. 18.

West Virginia will face Duquesne at 10 a.m. and Morgan State at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers look to build off an exceptional 2024 season after they advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 UTR Sports NIT Championship before losing to the eventual champion, Tulsa.
A 15-13 finish last year marked the first time WVU won 15 or more matches in a season since 2010, and it was the first winning season since 2010 for the Mountaineers that was not cut short by COVID-19.
Entering his 12th season, head coach Miha Lisac returns a core group of players who look to lead the program with a mixture of freshmen and transfers.
Seniors Michaela Kucharova and Tatiana Lipatova return after stellar seasons in 2024. Kucharova was one of three players to finish with 30 or more wins. In limited action, Lipatova finished with 21 wins on the year after not playing in the fall.
Redshirt junior Maja Dodik was another player who finished the 2024 campaign with 30 or more wins. Dodik has steadily improved each season since joining West Virginia, and she will be a foundational piece to the team in the upcoming season.
Lisac also made key additions in the offseason, adding transfer senior Mille Haagensen from Drake, graduate transfer Julie Bousseau, freshmen Laura Villanueva Morillo, Susannah Su and Morgantown native, Lyla Byers
In three years at Drake, Haagensen finished 90-39 overall, going 50-18 in singles and 43-21 in doubles play. Haagensen was the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Freshman of the Year in 2022 and was also named First Team All-Conference in 2022.
In fall play, Haagensen was the 2024 Bedford Cup and WVU UTR Women's Open champion.
