Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Coombs

West Virginia Falls at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 17-ranked West Virginia University women's basketball team fell on the road to Oklahoma State, 64-57, on Saturday afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Mountaineers who led at halftime, lost their offensive rhythm in the second half shooting just 21.2 percent from the floor. Despite the poor shooting performance West Virginia, who trailed by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter, made it a one-score game twice over the final two minutes but never found the game-tying shot.

Fifth-year Kylee Blacksten led the Mountaineers with 16 points as senior guard JJ Quinerly was the only other Mountaineer in double figures with 10. Senior guard Kyah Watson and junior guard Sydney Shaw grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds as Watson added five steals. Junior guard Jordan Harrison led the way with five assists.

Oklahoma State jumped out to an early 7-5 lead, but the Mountaineers made use of a 12-0 run forcing five Cowgirl turnovers to take a 17-7 lead with just over three minutes to play. The Cowgirls finished the frame 5 of 5 from the floor and on a 10-2 run to cut the WVU down to just one point. Blacksten had the hot hand for WVU, scoring 13 of her points in the frame on 5 of 6 shooting.

After trading the lead three times over the first five minutes of the second, WVU mounted an 11-0 run to take a 38-28 lead with a minute to play. The WVU defense held OSU to a 1 of 10 mark from the floor over eight minutes and forced the Cowgirls into eight turnovers. OSU knocked down a pair of free throws and a half-court heave at the buzzer to trim the WVU advantage to five.

The Cowgirls quickly took the lead out of the break, scoring the opening seven points of the game to lead 40-38 at the media timeout. For the quarter, OSU outscored the Mountaineers 17-7 as WVU went just 2 of 15 from the floor. Oklahoma State took a 50-45 lead into the final frame.

West Virginia is now 15-14 all-time against OSU, including a 5-9 mark when playing inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Quinerly currently sits 11th in points at 1,628, and behind Hall of Famer Liz Repella (2008-11) with 1,641. She is 4th in steals with 279 and sits just 14 away from catching Hall of Famer Rosemary Kosiorek (1989-92) who has 293.

West Virginia is back at home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, against Colorado inside the WVU Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
