MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2024 fall tennis schedule.
The Mountaineers will begin the fall competing in the Bedford Cup from Sept. 13-15, in College Park, Maryland. The teams competing in the Bedford Cup include Delaware State, George Mason, George Washington, Howard, Loyola (Maryland), Maryland, Morgan State, Mount St. Mary's, Norfolk State and Towson.
West Virginia will then compete in Thunder in the Mountains from Sept. 27-29, in Charleston. W.Va.
WVU will host the Martha Thorn Invitational in Morgantown from Oct. 4-6. Duquesne, Louisville, Maryland, Penn State, and Western Michigan will compete with West Virginia in the invitational.
The Mountaineers will then compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional in Charlottesville, Virginia, from Oct. 17-22, to wrap up team competition for the fall.
West Virginia players will also compete in two individual tournaments throughout the fall. The Mountaineers will participate in the W35 tournament in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Oct. 21, and the W15 tournament in Champaign, Illinois, on Nov. 4.
During the 2023-24 campaign, West Virginia won 15 matches and advanced to the semifinals of the UTR Sports NIT Championship. It was West Virginia's most wins in a season since 2010, and the program's first postseason appearance.
West Virginia's 15 victories marked the 12th time the program had accomplished that feat. The Mountaineers also had their most Big 12 wins in a single season since joining the conference.
The 2024-25 WVU roster is headlined by three returners from the 2023-24 season. Seniors Michaela Kucharova and Tatiana Lipatova and redshirt junior Maja Dodik were dominant during the spring campaign as each eclipsed 20 wins.
Dodik and Kucharova were two of three players to win 30 or more matches last season.
West Virginia's roster rounds out with three newcomers as graduate student Julie Bousseau, senior Mille Haagensen and freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo join the squad. At Drake, Haagensen was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Freshman of the Year and finished her Drake career with 90 victories.
