Mountaineers to Begin Fall Slate at Bedford Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team begins its 2024 fall slate at the Bedford Cup at the JTCC Tennis Facility in College Park, Maryland, from Sept. 13-15.
Along with West Virginia, the teams competing in the Bedford Cup include Delaware State, George Mason, George Washington, Howard, Loyola (Maryland), Maryland, Morgan State, Mount St. Mary's, Norfolk State and Towson.
West Virginia begins the 2024-25 season after capping a very successful 2023-24 season at the UTR Sports NIT Championship. The Mountaineers competed in their first postseason tournament in program history, advancing to the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Tulsa.
Despite the departure of three key players, the Mountaineers return a trio of veterans who will look to capitalize off a dominant 2023-24 season. Seniors Michaela Kucharova and Tatiana Lipatova and redshirt junior Maja Dodik are back in the lineup for WVU this season.
All three players won at least 20 matches a year ago, and Kucharova and Lipatova were two of three WVU players to win at least 30 matches.
West Virginia also welcomes three newcomers to the roster this season. Graduate student Julie Bousseau, senior Mille Haagensen and freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo round out the roster.
At Drake, Haagensen was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Freshman of the Year and finished her Drake career with 90 victories.
