Ors Navarro Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro of the West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments. Ors Navarro netted a hat trick against Purdue Fort Wayne in the season opener, leading the Mountaineers to a 4-2 win. The forward did in style as he scored with his head, left foot, and right foot. The Castellon, Spain native now has 15 goals in Mountaineer career, second-most among current WVU players. Ors Navarro and the rest of the Mountaineers are back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Monday night for a matchup with Saint Francis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
This Week in Men's Soccer: No. 3 West Virginia is back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for two games this week ... the Mountaineers will host Saint Francis on Monday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. before battling George Washington on Friday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m.

Last Week in Women's Soccer: West Virginia suffered its first loss of the season with a 3-0 falter at Clemson on Aug. 23 … the Mountaineers (2-1) fell behind early when the Tigers found the back of the net in the 13th minute, then added two more scores in the 21st and 32nd minutes to essentially seal the match … Clemson led 12-7 in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal, while the Mountaineers bested the Tigers in corner kicks, 4-3.
Notes: The only coach in WVU women's soccer history, Nikki Izzo-Brown begins her 29th season in Morgantown and 30th overall in 2024 … she has led West Virginia to an all-time mark of 392-139-73 … the Mountaineers return six players who played at least 700 minutes a year ago, led by senior defender Annika Leslie, who played in more than 1,500 minutes of game action in 2023 … four players are back on this year's roster who started all 19 contests a year ago … so far this season, 10 newcomers have recorded their first career minutes for WVU, including three who also have earned their first starting nod.
