
West Virginia to Host No. 56 Kansas, Iowa State in Final Home Big 12 Matches

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will face the No. 56 Kansas Jayhawks on Friday, April 5, at Summit Tennis Academy and the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday, April 7, at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts in Morgantown for the final home Big 12 matches of the season.
The Mountaineers will face Kansas at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, and Iowa State at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The match against Iowa State will serve as Senior Day and the 50th anniversary celebration for the program.
WVU will honor the contributions made to the program by senior Momoko Nagato and graduate students Love-Star Alexis and Ting-Pei Chang on Senior Day.
West Virginia (13-8, 2-7 Big 12) has lost three matches in a row after going winless against No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 75 Kansas State. WVU has its most wins in a season since it won 17 matches in 2010.
Since joining the Big 12, the Mountaineers have never beaten Kansas and have defeated Iowa State once in 2018.
Two Mountaineers have consistently led the way in singles play this season. Nagato and redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik lead the team in wins with 12. Juniors Michaela Kucharova and Tatiana Lipatova have made strong contributions this season sitting at 8-1 and 8-2 overall, respectively.
In doubles play, the pairing of freshman Maya Bordereau and Dodik set the tone at 10-4 overall. Kucharova and Nagato have played well in the No. 1 spot at 10-5 this season.
