Kammann Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following his victory at the Mountaineer Invitational, sophomore Carson Kammann has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
 
Kammann shot 10-under-par to lead the Mountaineers to a team championship with a tournament-record 18-under-par at the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
 
Kammann shot 71-68-67=206 to win the field ahead of senior teammate Jackson Davenport, who finished 9-under-par with rounds of 71-69-67=207. Kammann becomes the fourth different Mountaineer to win a tournament and second individual this season, joining Max Green, who won the Red Bandanna Invitational earlier this season. Kammann becomes the third different WVU golfer to win the Mountaineer Invitational, joining Mark Goetz (twice) and Max Sear.
 
West Virginia shot a tournament-record 18-under-par (285-285-276=846), besting the previous tournament record of 9-under-par, shot by NC State two years ago.
 
This Week in Baseball: West Virginia plays four games this week, beginning with a road contest at Penn State on Wednesday, April 24 … first pitch from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET … the Mountaineers will be back home, April 26-28, to take on Baylor … first pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., Saturday for 4 p.m., and Sunday for 1 p.m. … the game against Penn State will be on Big Ten Network Plus while the games over the weekend against the Bears will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
 
Last Week in Baseball: The Mountaineers opened the week with a 6-3 win over Pitt in the first edition of the Backyard Brawl this season at Kendrick Family Ballpark … junior Brodie Kresser had two hits while six players scored a run and five different Mountaineers collected an RBI … WVU had a rough weekend in Lubbock as Texas Tech earned a sweep over the Mountaineers … Texas Tech won the first game on April 19, 15-2, before sweeping a doubleheader on April 21, by scores of 6-4 and 3-1.
 
Notes: A new attendance record was set against Pitt as 4,614 fans showed up to support the Mountaineers at Kendrick Family Ballpark, besting the previous record by over 200 … the Mountaineers have won six straight games against Pitt and six straight contests against the Panthers in Morgantown … West Virginia entered the rankings for the first time this season, peaking at No. 18 by Baseball America and coming in at No. 22 in the NCAA-recognized D1Baseball poll … junior Kyle West hit the farthest home run of the season on Friday against Texas Tech as his blast went 467 feet … WVU is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the Big 12 alongside Oklahoma State and Texas who are all three games behind Oklahoma.
 
This Week in Golf: The Mountaineers are back in action on Monday, April 22, at the Big 12 Golf Championship in Trinity, Texas ... teams will play 72 holes over three days.

This Week in Track & Field: West Virginia will travel to the Penn Relays on April 25-27, which will be held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
 
Last Week in Track & Field: On April 19, redshirt junior Cassandra Williamson competed at the Virginia Challenge in Fairfax, Virginia, in the women's 800 meters … Williamson finished fifth overall with a time of 2:06.25 ... on April 20, WVU hosted the Mountaineer Twilight at the Track and Field at Mylan Park in Morgantown … Saturday's meet was highlighted by a Mountaineer sweep in the women's 800 meter as redshirt senior Mikenna Vanderheyden claimed first with a time of 2:07.03 … freshman Kishay Rowe finished second with a time of 2:08.21, followed by classmate Mary Delaney who collected a personal best time of 2:11.97 along with a third-place finish … freshman Eva Rinker rounded out the event in fourth, running for a 2:16.82 time … freshman Lily Haught added a pair of first place finishes in the women's 200 and 400 meters, with times of 25.64 and 58.63, respectively .. in the 1,500 meters, redshirt sophomore Zara Zervos boasted a personal record of 4:49.17 to finish second overall. Additionally, classmate Aubrie Custer trailed behind, racing for a personal best of 4:53.66.
