MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team will open its spring season this weekend as a split squad, racing four boats at the Sunshine Invitational in Sarasota, Florida, on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30, and one eight boat competing with Robert Morris and Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
"We are excited to get the season started this weekend," WVU associate head coach Tina Griffith said. "We have put in a lot of work this past year and are looking forward to seeing where the positive momentum puts us in our first full competition. We are fortunate to get some early racing and find where we are in relationship to other quality teams, nationally and in the conference. We also are excited to put out a boat in Pittsburgh and allow those athletes an excellent racing opportunity."
The Sunshine State Regatta will take place at Nathan Benderson Park and is hosted by the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships and the IRA Sarasota Invitational.
Teams participating in the invitational include Boston College, Drexel, Jacksonville, Kansas State, Michigan State, Old Dominion, Stetson, Tulsa, Central Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Massachusetts, Miami and North Carolina.
