
West Virginia Falls to VCU on Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team lost to VCU, 4-3, on Saturday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
West Virginia (5-1) was unable to earn the doubles point as VCU won two of the three doubles matches. The pairing of freshman Maya Bordereau and redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik defeated VCU's Mariam Ibrahim and Anja Draskovic, 6-3, for West Virginia's only doubles win.
Bordereau and Dodik are 5-0 in doubles play for the Mountaineers this season.
The pairing of juniors Camilla Bossi and Michaela Kucharova nearly completed an unprecedented comeback after falling behind, 5-2. Bossi and Kucharova won three straight games to tie the match at 5-5 before losing 7-6 (5) to VCU's Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini.
The doubles team of graduate students Love-Star Alexis and Ting-Pei Chang lost, 6-0, as VCU earned the doubles point to lead 1-0.
Bordereau continued her dominant freshman season with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Draskovic. Bordereau is 5-1 in singles play this season.
Alexis dominated in the first set of her singles match, winning 6-1. VCU's Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando rallied in the second set to win, 6-4. Alexis secured the win in the third set, 6-1.
Bossi mounted a comeback against Karlova after falling in the first set, 6-4. She won the second set, 6-3, to force a third set. She lost 6-3 in the deciding set as the Mountaineers were tied with VCU, 2-2.
West Virginia was defeated after VCU won two of the final three singles matches.
