Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team defeated William & Mary, 4-1, on Saturday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
West Virginia (9-1) began the match winning two of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The pairing of junior
Michaela Kucharova and senior
Momoko Nagato defeated William & Mary's Yu Chen and Emma Fernald, 6-2.
The doubles team of freshman
Maya Bordereau and redshirt sophomore
Maja Dodik improved to 8-1 on the season with a 6-4 victory.
Senior
Momoko Nagato claimed the first singles win for West Virginia, defeating William & Mary's Mila Mejic, 6-1, 6-3.
Graduate student
Love-Star Alexis fell in the No. 1 seed match, 6-4, 6-4.
Dodik was locked in a battle with William & Mary's Ine Stange in the No. 4 seed match. The pair went back and forth in the first set before Dodik pulled away to win, 7-5. Dodik took the second set, 6-4, to win the match.
Bordereau won the first set in the No. 2 seed match, 7-6 (4). In the second set, Bordereau led, 4-1, before Yu Chen rallied to win the set, 6-4. The match went unfinished in the third set with Bordereau ahead, 5-3.
Kucharova locked up the win for the Mountaineers as she defeated the Tribe's Francesca Davis, 6-0, 6-1.
