Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team beat Toledo, 4-3, on Friday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
Despite falling behind early, West Virginia (8-1) bested the Rockets as junior
Michaela Kucharova defeated Toledo's Audrey Moutama in the No. 6 seed match, 7-6 (3), 6-2, to secure the win.
The pairing of redshirt sophomore
Maja Dodik and freshman
Maya Bordereau was defeated in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3. The doubles team comprised of graduate students
Love-Star Alexis and
Ting-Pei Chang lost, 6-3, as Toledo earned the doubles point to lead, 1-0.
Bordereau had a dominant performance in singles play, defeating Toledo's Gaby Rondon, 6-3, 6-1, to tie the match at 1-1. Alexis was defeated in the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-4, as Toledo took a 2-1 lead.
In the No. 4 singles match, Dodik won the first set after rallying from a 3-0 deficit. In the second set, Dodik lost, 6-3, to force a third set against Toledo's Sloane Teske. In the deciding set, Dodik won, 7-5, to tie the match at 2-2.
After losing the first set, senior
Momoko Nagato mounted a comeback, winning the second set, 6-2. In the final set, Nagato trailed 5-4, before she rallied to win, 7-5.
West Virginia finished off the Rockets with Kucharova's singles win.
