MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior
Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University cross country team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
McCabe earned her third Big 12 Championship title on Nov. 1 at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in Waco, Texas. The senior collected a personal and program best time in the women's 6k, of 19:02.6.
With the finish, McCabe claimed All-Big 12 honors and helped the Mountaineers clinch second place at the conference championship, with 60 total team points.
McCabe and the Mountaineers will have the week off before heading to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15. This year's NCAA regional will be hosted by Penn State at the Blue and White Courses in University Park, Pennsylvania. The women's 6k time is to be announced.
This Week in Men's Soccer: No. 7 West Virginia travels to No. 6 Marshall on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for the regular-season finale ... kickoff from Hoops Family Field in Huntington is set for 7:15 p.m. ... the Mountaineers will clinch the Sun Belt regular-season title with a win or draw while Marshall will clinch the title with a win ... West Virginia will host the Sun Belt quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 10 with matches set for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Lorenzo Nunez made his first career start in goal as part of Senior Day and made three saves to earn the shutout.
Notes: The Mountaineers will host the Sun Belt Tournament for the first time in three years in the league ... WVU had a starting lineup featuring 10 seniors against Coastal Carolina on Senior Night ... a win or tie against Marshall would clinch the first Sun Belt title for the Mountaineers ...it is the seventh straight contest against the Thundering Herd where at least one team has been ranked and the third straight between two top-10 teams.
This Week in Women's Soccer: WVU is off this week ... the Mountaineers will wait to learn their fate in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament ... the NCAA Selection Show is set for Monday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. ET, while the First Round will commence Nov. 15-17.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: No. 3-seed West Virginia dropped a heartbreaking, double-overtime match in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship, falling 1-0 to No. 6-seed Kansas inside CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Nov. 2 ... after 90 minutes of play, the match was scoreless and went into the first overtime period of the season and the Big 12 Tournament so far this year ... neither team managed to find the back of the net in the first, so it went into a second overtime period ... unfortunately for West Virginia, it was Kansas who would find the golden goal in the 101st minute.
Notes: With the loss, the Mountaineers fell to 10-4-2 all-time against the Jayhawks, as well as 1-2 in neutral-site meetings ... additionally, WVU is now 17-5-3 in the Big 12 Championship all time, while it is the squad's first loss in an overtime match in the league tournament ... West Virginia's all-time overtime record at the Big 12 Championship is now 2-1-3 ...
