
Cleary and McCabe Garnish USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Head coach Sean Cleary and senior Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University cross country team have been named the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach and Women's Athlete of the Year, by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The pair earned the accolades after West Virginia claimed victory at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15, with a program best 41 points. Additionally, McCabe claimed her third regional championships and broke a 10-year course record with a time of 19:11.2.
The regional win marked the first for the Mountaineers since 2008.
West Virginia went on to finish second at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23, clinching the runner up spot with 164 team points. McCabe once again led the squad, finishing in sixth place with a time of 19:41.2, earning her third cross country All-America honor and ninth overall.
Additionally, freshman Joy Naukot and redshirt senior Sarah Tait earned First Team All-America accolades after claiming 17th and 34th place, respectively. The Mountaineers were rounded out by redshirt junior Emily Bryce in 69th place, and graduate student Madison Trippett in 89th.
Cleary picks up his fifth regional coach of the year honor, after being named the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2021.
McCabe is the only Mountaineer to ever be named the NCAA All-Mid Atlantic Women's Athlete of the Year, after picking up her first honor in 2021 when she claimed her first regional title.
