
West Virginia Gets First Win Over Virginia Tech Since 1992

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team defeated Virginia Tech, 4-3, on Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
West Virginia (4-0) won the dual match in the last singles match of the day as junior Tatiana Lipatova defeated Virginia Tech's Erika Chang, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.
This was West Virginia's fifth win against Virginia Tech in program history and the first win since 1992.
In doubles play, the pairing of junior Michaela Kucharova and senior Momoko Nagato was defeated by Virginia Tech's Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova, 6-3.
Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang lost to Virginia Tech's Semra Aksu and Chang, 6-2, as the Hokies secured the doubles point to lead 1-0.
In singles play, junior Camilla Bossi earned her first singles victory of the 2024 season, defeating Virginia Tech's Ozlem Uslu, 6-2, 6-0. Graduate student Love-Star Alexis earned a hard-fought win against No. 101 Andreini, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The match was tied at 2-2, after redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik lost to Virginia Tech's Dariya Radulova, 2-6, 4-6.
Freshman Maya Bordereau continued her dominant first season, defeating Aksu, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Nagato was defeated in her singles match by Virginia Tech's Tamara Barad Itzhaki, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.

The Mountaineers will play host to Indiana on Friday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. ET, before facing VCU on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. Both matches will be at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
