
West Virginia Begins Season with Wins Against Duquesne, Morgan State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team began the 2024 spring season with victories against Duquesne and Morgan State on Saturday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown, W.Va.
"We had a good start to the spring campaign today," head coach Miha Lisac said. "The team came out focused and ready to tackle the doubleheader. We were able to get better and get more prepared for the upcoming matches."
West Virginia (2-0) opened the season with a 7-0 win against Duquesne. The doubles pairing of redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik and freshman Maya Bordereau defeated Duquesne's Ana Utrilla Benito and Sofia Serrano, 6-1.
Graduate students Love-Star Alexis and Ting-Pei Chang won against Duquesne's Daniela Latoni and Jasa Roka, 6-4, to earn the doubles point for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia continued its dominant start to the 2024 season in singles play, winning all six singles matches. In her first appearance as a Mountaineer, Bordereau defeated Duquesne's Mila Badics 6-3, 6-0.
Chang defeated Roka, 6-3, 6-1, and Alexis won 6-3, 6-2, against Latoni to keep the momentum rolling for WVU.

To finish the day, West Virginia faced Morgan State, winning 7-0. The Mountaineers won both doubles matches to secure the doubles point and won all of the singles matches.
Junior Catherine Wassick fell behind 6-0 before storming back to win the second set, 7-5. In the tiebreak set, Wassick defeated Morgan State's Iva Jankovic, 11-9.

Up next, West Virginia will travel to Huntington, W.Va. to face Marshall on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Mountaineers will then face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Sunday, Jan. 28.
