
West Virginia Returns Home for 70’s Disco Day Against Penn

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team returns to Morgantown for its second home dual meet of the season, welcoming Penn to the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 21. Competition is tabbed to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
It's 70's Disco Day, with themed giveaways and 70's music throughout the meet. There will be a special 70's poster for the first 250 fans, as well as a raffle featuring 70's-inspired prizes. It's also a Dollar Day, with tickets and select concessions available for just $1. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME to avoid lines at the gate on meet day.

West Virginia is 12-0 all-time against the Quakers, with the two teams meeting for the first time in the season finale in 1980. WVU and Penn last met in the 2023 regular-season finale on March 12, in a tri meet with Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey. West Virginia claimed a 196.55-194.475 victory over Penn, taking second place in the meet.
Last time out, WVU earned a season-high 195.05 in a third-place finish at its first quad meet of the year against Illinois, UW-Oshkosh and Western Michigan inside Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill., on Jan. 13. West Virginia tallied event scores of 48.675 on vault, 48.85 on the uneven bars, 48.625 on the balance beam and 48.9 on floor exercise.
Fifth-year senior Abbie Pierson paced the team on vault (9.85), while sophomore Emma Wehry led the way on bars and beam with a pair of career-high 9.875's. Freshman Jurnee Lane earned her first career score of 9.8 or higher with a 9.85 to lead the floor lineup.
In the second week of the Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 46 overall following the second weekend of the NCAA Gymnastics season. WVU also sits at No. 39 on uneven bars, with a season high of 48.85.
