
Green Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After securing the individual title and leading the Mountaineers to a victory at the Red Bandanna Invitational, Max Green of the West Virginia University golf team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Green shot 68-75-70 to finish 3-under-par, winning the invitational by one stroke over Boston College's Jack Pogerelc. Green was one of three golfers in the field under par.
It was Green's second career victory as a Mountaineer. He was co-champion of the ECU Intercollegiate as a freshman. He also is the third WVU golfer to win two collegiate tournaments, joining Max Sear and Mark Goetz.
West Virginia won the 15-team field by two strokes over Boston College. WVU shot 289-294-289=872 (+8). It marked WVU's first team victory since winning the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in the spring of 2022.
This Week in Men's Soccer: The Mountaineers (3-0) have two games this week, beginning with a road contest in the nation's capital against American at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5 … WVU will return home on Saturday, Sept. 9, for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff against No. 6 Portland at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … the game against the Pilots will be free admission for all fans.
Last Week in Men's Soccer: West Virginia kept its shutout streak intact to begin the season, defeating Bucknell and Yale by identical scores of 2-0 … senior Yutaro Tsukada had six points on the week, notching a goal and an assist in each game … sophomore Marcus Caldeira found the back of the net in each game as well … senior Jackson Lee made one save against Bucknell and then earned the win against Yale without having to make a save.
Notes: The Mountaineers have yet to give up a goal in 270 minutes of action this season … it is just the fourth time in program history that WVU has opened a season with three-straight clean sheets (1998, 2005, 2006) … the squad has never opened a season with four straight shutouts … Caldeira has scored in all three matches this year and has four goals overall, second-most in the nation … Tsukada converted a penalty for the Mountaineers against Yale, the first penalty kick for the Mountaineers since 2021 … before the game against Yale, the last time the Mountaineers did not give up a shot on goal was against Lehigh in October 2022 … sixth-ranked Portland will be the first ranked opponent the Mountaineers face this season.
